Single Maple Key Necklace

Maple key necklace -$45

I don't think that I have ever posted this pretty little lady before, poor thing. We used to have the small double maple keys that looked like mustaches, but now we've matured and are much more serious and romantic so obviously we have this larger single maple key. In case you forgot, these necklaces are made in Niagara-on-the-Lake by an adorable couple who have created a whole line including REAL four leaf clovers, acorns, and maple leaves that are dipped in nickel, then into gold. Not to mention they are so so pretty.

Basement Dwelling-let's do it!

OK- I have already posed this conundrum to Jenn Hannotte (you know- my bff and interior design advisor) but I can't even wait for her to email me back-now on to the post of the post. I just came across this video for a benefit for japan and it looked cute so I watched it and now I have opened a whole can of design worms. Firstly there were girls with crowns of flowers in their hair, which is a plus, and then holy shit- the interiors! The party took place at a new bar in Paris called Candelaria, which looks like it is a basement, and now I want to move into a basement and never come out. Also- we need to find a way to move the store down to the basement. We can totally wear flower crowns and drink lychee martinis all day AND night by candle light (because it's a basement).
So- how am I going to incorporate this look into all aspects of my life?

That Confetti System garland is everywhere, and that logo!  I can feel a diy mirrored candle-fireplace coming on, thats for sure...Send me your suggestions in the comments section please! All photos are from here.

Teak Tulipiere

Vintage  Tulipiere $25

The Grid

This week's issue of The Grid features a sweet little roundup of Russet and Empire's greatest Canadian hits. There were a few things that didn't make it into the article sadly but on the other hand, I don't look stupid in the photo. You win some, you lose some.
But seriously I am pretty excited about this, it's the biggest article on the shop yet AND it's in The Grid which seems to be the talk of the town!

See you soon !

David Lynch Signature Cup

This has nothing to do with the store, other than it's the best thing ever of course.

How NOT to remove plugs from a wall

In your shop. On a weekend. Because you had a good idea but didn't check to make sure you had the right tools BEFORE you started ripping shit apart. I decided that the old 'kids area' is going to be the new 'pretty lady' area and it's going to be appropriately beautiful. Stay tuned.

Inspiration for the pretty lady area came from this magazine from 1952. Luckily I hit the jackpot and I have lots of pretty lady things like this in the shop right now for your shopping pleasure.

Have a lovely Sunday!

Happy Friday the 13th

What are you dudes up to this weekend? I am going to be sitting right here behind the computer in the shop catching up on some neglected blogs and hopefully doing some blogging myself. I think it will be nice to have a low key weekend after last weekend's yardsale madness. BUT as I write I just realized that not only will I be chilling behind the desk, I will be going splitzies with Leah on a big fat plate of RIBS. My neighbours to the south- Aquila restaurant are hosting RIB FEST (sorry vegetarians*) in support of MS research. It starts at 11 am and goes late into the night. So- after you are finished stuffing yourself with ribs, pop by and say hello and we can talk about how full we feel!  Have a lovely weekend everyone.
xoxo R+E

Big News! Jenn Hannotte is in the House

Do you guys remember Jenn Hannotte who blogged about the shop over at Arren Williams? She is also the same lady that I recommend when people ask if I know a good interior designer (that happens a lot). WELL, as of September 1, Jenn and I will be working together to form Russet and Empire Interiors. Go check out her site as well as her recent home profile on The Marion House Book if you want to be inspired or if you were thinking of getting some help with your house but couldn't find the right 'fit' when  hiring someone. If you like the store, you are going to love Jenn. Not only does she have an eagle eye for design, she is also a big fan of craigslist for sourcing vintage furniture, AND she is hilarious. A triple threat of design. Until September Jenn will be available on a part time basis, so if you are having an interior emergency, don't fret we can still help you.
PS- if you checked out her house, it will enrage you to know that it ALWAYS looks like that. I guess thats the whole point....she can do that and you can't. Ms Hannotte is like a pretty design Yoda and you can hire her to teach you young jedi.
